Who we are

The Man Cave is Australia’s leading preventative mental health charity for teenage boys and their communities. We work with thousands of teenage boys in high schools each month to support boys from a young age to become self-aware, respectful, emotionally mature men.

Our programs create long-term, positive shifts in attitudes and behaviours by creating psychologically safe space, challenging problematic gender stereotypes and providing participants with the opportunity to practise healthier masculinity principles.

What is a Man Cave facilitator

The role of a Man Cave Facilitator is to co-facilitate full-day workshops with groups of teenage boys in high school. In this role, you will engage with young men through interactive activities and discussions, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. In addition, you will collaborate with The Man Cave team by participating in rigorous pre- and post-workshop conversations, where we thoroughly prepare and reflect on each session’s outcomes to continuously enhance our impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Programs Manager, the facilitator role is responsible for executing Man Cave’s school programs, ensuring that they adhere to best practice.
  • Co-facilitate The Man Cave’s school workshops (usually full day) in secondary schools across metro Melbourne, regional Victoria and at times interstate.
  • Engage in regular formal and informal facilitation training to ensure continual professional development.
  • Maintain a reliable, punctual, organised and thorough approach to delivering on all responsibilities.
  • Role model The Man Cave’s guiding principles.
  • Contribute to a culture where every team member is valued for their diverse skill set.

Key Selection

  • Strong capacity to facilitate, public speaking, or perform to groups, and an ability to connect and communicate to a wide variety of people.
  • An understanding of working with diverse communities, including but not limited to, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ people, and people from regional and rural areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a dynamic team, and also to work autonomously to manage your own workplace obligations.

Additional Requirements

  • Everyday access to a private vehicle for work use and a valid Australian drivers licence. Please note independent travel is essential as this role involves travel to a range of schools (including where public transport is inaccessible). If you are unable to drive for an accessibility reason, but have a viable alternative, please reach out to us to discuss.
  • A minimum of 2 days per week availability throughout the school term.
  • Successful applicants will require a valid Working With Children check.
  • A valid working visa to work in Australia for the next two years (if applicable).

Hours

This is a casual role, the working days are primarily through school terms, and we hold training sessions during the school holidays. The workshops are full-day, and run over the course of a school day (typically 8am - 4pm).

Availability required

Minimum of 2 days per week throughout school terms.

Location

At various secondary schools across Victoria, with occasional interstate travel.

Pay rate

$44.02 per hour under the SCHADS awards, plus superannuation, plus Fringe benefits tax free and travel allowances.

  • Onboarding: July 3 & July 4, 2024, 9am - 5pm.
  • Facilitator Training: Various time throughout the week of July 8th, (equivalent of 22.8hrs).
  • Regroup (organisation) Day: August 13th, 9am - 5pm.
