About the Role:

We are looking for people passionate about helping their community create meaningful, affordable funerals to join the expanding funeral delivery team at Tender Funerals Canberra Region. Full-time, part-time and casual positions are available. Compassion, a strong work ethic and a person-centred approach is a must-have. Funeral experience is optional; we have a strong culture of on-the-job skills development.

About us:

Tender Funerals Canberra Region is a not-for-profit funeral service delivering meaningful and affordable funerals. We also provide community education opportunities to empower communities and build their capacity in the death and dying space. Tender Canberra Region will commence funeral operations in August 2024.

We seek expressions of interest from people wishing to join our team as a funeral director in either a full-time, part-time or casual capacity. Some funeral and/or mortuary experience is preferred, but training is available for the right candidates.

The role will require:

  • Meeting with families to arrange funerals
  • Working in our mortuary providing basic mortuary care, ceremonial washing and dressing with staff, volunteers and families
  • Transferring the deceased into our care
  • Booking and conducting funerals
  • Taking a collaborative role in team skills development
  • Participating in our community education events
  • Working with and supporting volunteers
  • Contributing to a 24/7 on-call roster for support and transfers

To be successful in this position, you will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Willingness to work within the Tender Credo (https://tenderfunerals.com.au/canberra/our-model)
  • A person-centred approach to funerals and death care
  • A commitment to strength-based community development
  • Willingness to work in the mortuary
  • Be willing and available to contribute regularly to the on call roster for transfers, phones and arrangements
  • Uphold and contribute to a healthy workplace culture
  • Proficient computer skills and willingness to learn and use new technology
  • Hold a current unrestricted Australian driver's licence
  • Ability to drive manual preferred
  • Willingness to undergo a police check and obtain Working with Vulnerable People (ACT) and Working with Children (NSW) cards
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage own workload
  • Have good communication skills, both on the phone and in person
  • Being physically fit to carry out the duties

Desirable skills and experience include:

  • Working in a death-related environment
  • Funeral arranging, conducting or directing
  • Mortuary
