Tenants Victoria is the peak body for renters in our state and serves as Victoria’s leading specialist tenancy community legal centre. We are a respected and influential advocate for social change, working to improve conditions for people who rent their homes and experience hardship and/or disadvantage.

Through our advice line, legal casework, law reform work, training, publications and outreach activities, we support individual renters and community organisations. We also advocate for policy, procedural and legislative change. The role will deliver a specialist financial counselling service that assists Victorian tenants, working collaboratively with Tenants Victoria’s lawyers and other workers as part of an integrated model of service delivery.

ABOUT YOU

You want to deliver services to people that will change their lives. You are a motivated self-starter who can work autonomously to deliver high quality results and exceed expectations. You have high attention to detail, are well-organised and can build rapport with people quickly. You believe that housing is a human right and are driven to make renting fairer.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The main purpose of the role is to deliver a specialist financial counselling service that assists Victorian tenants, working collaboratively with Tenants Victoria’s lawyers and other workers as part of an integrated model of service delivery.

Key to your success is your:

  • Experience providing high quality financial counselling service to clients in a community or not for profit organisation.
  • Knowledge of relevant State and Federal credit, debt, and social security legislation.
  • Willingness and ability to communicate empathetically with a variety of clients, including those with cognitive impairment or language barriers, people from diverse backgrounds, people with alcohol or other drug dependence and people experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness.
  • High level of oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, a diverse range of clients, external stakeholders and organisations.
  • Ability to maintain consistent standards of quality service while working independently, efficiently and completing tasks within limited time constraints.
  • Commitment to the use of supervision, client and colleague feedback and professional development to continually improve practice.
  • Ability to contribute actively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Commitment to advancing the public interest and social justice.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Diploma of Financial Counselling
  • You must be a Member, or be eligible for membership, of the Financial Counselling Victoria (FCVic)
  • You will have completed Family Violence Training for Financial Counsellors, or be willing to complete this training.

Role to end June 2025 with possibility of ongoing employment.
