About us:

Since its establishment in 1995, SHARC has lived its Mission Statement, helping to create transformation for countless individuals, families and communities impacted by alcohol and other drugs and, more recently, gambling.

SHARC is a lived experience led organisation – we are experts by experience. Our approach is grounded in self-help and mutual support. Our lived experience-led services offer telephone and online support, education programs, counselling, peer support groups, residential recovery and more.

We support the growth and sustainability of the Lived and Living Experience workforce through training, supervision and support. And we advocate, educate, and provide an important platform for consumer voice in the alcohol and other drugs sector through the Association of Participating Service Users (APSU).

About the Role:

  • The appointment is for a three-year term and may be renewed. The role carries the typical expectations of an NFP board member in providing strategic direction and governance to our agency.
  • In addition to these core functions, SHARC is seeking Directors from a range of communities and intersections with specific skills and experience in legal issues, financial management, risk and compliance, marketing and communications, government and public policy.
  • Directors are expected to provide input and guidance on organisational strategies, policies, and programs.
  • Directors who have a lived experience are sought to ensure that the Board decision making is steered by experts by experience.
  • Directors are expected to participate actively in board meetings, committee work, and organisational events, contributing your unique insights and expertise.

About You:

  • Commitment to the mission and values of SHARC.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a willingness to actively engage in organisational governance and decision-making.
  • Previous board experience preferred, but not required.
  • At least one position will be for an individual with a lived experience which includes a person who has been directly affected by addiction including family members.
