Mountains Youth Services Team (MYST) is a non-profit organisation that supports the development of disadvantaged and at-risk young people by providing relevant and dynamic programs that empower young people to grow intellectually, emotionally and physically.
We operate a range of different services including youth centres, adolescent counselling services, in-school programs, early school leavers, personal, individual and family support programs, outdoor education programs and an outreach service.

Position Purpose
- Work within the framework of MYST to identify and engage young people who are vulnerable and in need of assistance.
- Offer individual therapy to young people, parental support and/or family-based interventions.
- Facilitate and contribute to the development of a range of workshops and group-based programs, which are run both on-site and in the community (e.g. schools).
- Contribute to the key principle of maintaining a Child Safe environment.
Selection Criteria:
Qualifications and background experience
- Minimum four-year accredited qualification in psychology.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in providing counselling, referral and support to young people and their families.
- Professional registration with The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), professional indemnity insurance, and a Medicare provider number (or eligible to obtain).
- Demonstrated continuing professional development / attainment of professional development points to keep current with industry skills and knowledge.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of typical child development, human learning and individual differences, and a range of psychological assessment tools.
- Demonstrated understanding of child and adult mental health.
- Knowledge of professional codes of conduct, ethics and values, and awareness of relevant legislation, policies and issues that are relevant to young people and service delivery.
- Experience in liaising with mental health professionals, government and non-government agencies, other NGO’s and community groups.
- Extensive knowledge and competency of a broad range of therapeutic modalities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage time and multiple demands.
- Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and function autonomously while being able to effectively work in a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written skills with particular emphasis on interpersonal communication skills, establishing trust and rapport, maintaining confidentiality and record keeping.
- Demonstrated competence in use of information technology, internet and desktop applications; e.g. electronic client record systems, Outlook, Word, Excel and database packages.
- Experience working with people with diverse identities.
