Who are we?

Elder Rights Advocacy (ERA) supports older people, their families and representatives in Victoria to address issues related to Commonwealth funded aged care services. Our service is free, independent, and confidential.

We promote the rights of older people and ensure that that their voice is heard.

Our job is to provide information that empowers older people to make informed decisions about the care and services they receive and to stand beside them when they raise issues or concerns with aged care providers.

We are a founding member of the National Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN), delivering the National Aged Care Advocacy Program (NACAP) and the Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme (ACVVS).

All staff at ERA work remotely from home and come together for one-day meetings in Melbourne CBD approximately every six-eight weeks. Staff are set up with equipment in their homes that is OH&S compliant. We take very seriously the health and wellbeing of our staff who told us they wished to work remotely post COVID restrictions. We can now service our clients more effectively as we draw our workforce from across Victoria.

The Opportunity

The Diversity Engagement Officer will engage with aged care providers to promote and encourage attendance at the Diversity workshop series and Community of Practice being carried out by OPAN.

The Diversity Engagement Officer will have some intrastate travel in metro and regional Victoria with the Diversity Training team to meet with providers and help facilitate the Diversity workshops.

As part of the role, you will be responsible for the following

  • Engaging with aged care providers to promote and encourage attendance at the Diversity workshop series and Community of Practice.
  • Support facilitation, in conjunction with the OPAN Diversity Training team and other stakeholders, the Diversity workshop series that includes face-to- face workshops and virtual support for aged care providers.
  • Provide a copy of their contact list for aged care providers to support identification of, and connection with, local diversity organisations, knowledge holders and networks in the workshop series.
  • Promote the workshop series to aged care providers which includes cold calling providers and engaging with them.
  • Attend workshops which are located both metro Melbourne and regional Victoria.
  • Collect and analyse data and feedback for reporting purposes and continuous improvement of the diversity education programs.
  • Contribute to, and support the delivery facilitation of, a Community of Practice.

ABOUT YOU

What we are looking for:

You will be a passionate, organised, and a driven person that wants to be part of an organisation that exists to give a voice to older people. It goes without saying you will have exceptional communication skills, have had previous experience in the aged care or community sectors or similar role and be a kind, caring and compassionate person.

Ideally you will have the following skills:

  • Demonstrates high level verbal and written communication skills with a variety of stakeholders. This includes a high level of comfort with making phone calls and providing brief presentations to a variety of audiences to promote Diversity education.
  • Highly Desirable: Good understanding of diversity, preferably within the aged care sector.
  • Highly Desirable: Experience in developing and facilitating Communities of Practice.
  • Demonstrates integrity and commitment to OPAN, maintaining a solid work ethic at all times.
  • Complete tasks in a timely manner and meets defined deadlines.
  • Attention to detail, even whilst working fast and under pressure.
  • Demonstrates integrity, empathy and compassion towards the organisation’s client groups.
  • Operate autonomously while maintaining accountability and working within organisational frameworks.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to undertake reflective practice for self-development.
  • Demonstrates an openness to learn from others, take on constructive feedback and provide solutions.
  • A self-starter who takes the initiative to get things done.

Remuneration and Benefits

  • $47.50 per hour + 11% superannuation
  • As a not-for-profit organisation the option to salary package $15,900 p.a. + meals and entertainment salary packaging $2650 p.a.
