Canteen, Camp Quality and Redkite (Alliance Partners) are working together to provide Cancer Hub – a digital hub to help families impacted by cancer more easily access the practical and emotional support they need, when they need it. This role represents Camp Quality and its children and families. Camp Quality brings positivity, fun and laughter back into the lives of kids facing cancer. We are there for children and their families, from the heartbreaking cancer diagnosis through every step of the experience. Camp Quality support families where there are kids (0-15) dealing with their own cancer diagnosis, or the diagnosis of a sibling or parent. The services and programs offered through Camp Quality help families build optimism and resilience through community, education and fun.
We are now seeking a National Intake Clinician- Camp Quality to join our Cancer Hub team. The National Intake Clinician will hold broad knowledge of Cancer Hub services which include knowledge about Camp Quality, Redkite and Canteen services and supports, assist clients to better understand their needs and support options, and refer the clients to the most appropriate avenue.

This National Intake Clinician- Camp Quality will be responsible for representing the needs of Camp Quality eligible children and families and fostering connections between Camp Quality, Cancer Hub, Alliance partners and other stakeholders.

  • Base Salary + Superannuation + Not-For-Profit Salary Packaging (up to $15,900 of your salary tax-free).

About our role

  1. Service Delivery: Deliver intake assessment and triage via telephone or zoom providing extensive information about Cancer Hub services and delivering short-term interventions as required.
  2. Stakeholder engagement: Contribute to key stakeholder relationships, working collaboratively with all services under Cancer Hub, Alliance Partners and other stakeholders to ensure young people and families receive access to the supports that best meet their needs.
  3. Team Collaboration and Program Development: Collaborate and consult with peers/across Cancer Hub/Canteen/Alliance; sharing practice through teaching and learning opportunities; contributing to team projects and overall development of the service.

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, Occupational Therapy or Nursing.
  • Experience in an intake or similar role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to the needs of children, young people (12-25 years) and their families.
  • Knowledge of and experience in supporting children, young people and families impacted by complex or life limiting illnesses preferred but not essential.
  • Experience administering brief assessments and coordinating care with young people and families.
  • Proven ability to engage and quickly create rapport with referrers, young people, and carers/parents.
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments and developing safety plans inclusive of mental state, suicidality, self-harm, violence, child protection and risk of harm to others.
  • Knowledge of child protection legislation and mandatory reporting
  • Demonstrated skills in decision making, problem solving, negotiation and crisis management.
  • Ability to provide brief therapeutic interventions where appropriate (e.g. psycho-education, solution focused interventions, safety planning and wellbeing strategies).
  • Outstanding communication skills and a natural ability to connect
  • A compassionate values-based approach

Due to the nature of Canteen and Cancer Hub’s work, you will be required to (very) occasionally work weekends and evenings. Advance notice will be given when this is the case, and Canteen does have a Time off in Lieu policy for taking leave as agreed with the supervising manager.
